Bursaries & Awards

ALLA celebrates excellence and dedication within our profession through a range of awards, which are presented during our biannual conferences.

These awards recognise not only exceptional individual law librarians and information professionals, but also outstanding teams, vendors, publishers, and suppliers who make a difference in our community.

ALLA Biannual Awards

ALLA has a number of awards used to recognise outstanding contributions to the profession.

  • The ALLA Law Librarian of the Year Award recognises an outstanding law librarian or information professional who is nominated by their peers.

  • The ALLA Legal Information Service of the Year Award rewards outstanding performance and service by a service, library or team.

  • The ALLA Gem of the Year recognises outstanding service by a vendor, publisher or supplier.

  • The ALLA Life Membership is awarded at the national level for law librarians who have retired from full-time work and have made a significant contribution to the Association and profession.

Under the National Model, committees are formed for each scholarship and award separately. These committees typically consist of a member of the board acting alongside a predetermined number of general members, who together appraise applications and administer each award.

ALLA Certificate of Appreciation

In addition to the named awards, ALLA also presents annual Certificates of Appreciation to members of the Australian Law Librarians' Association who have made a significant contribution to ALLA or to the profession of law librarianship.

Nominations will be considered by the National President and the President of the nominated members division.

All ALLA members are invited to nominate worthy candidates by submitting a nomination form.

Presentation of Certificates

Recipients will be awarded their certificate at their local Divisional meeting/event at a date to be determined by the Divisional President or at the National AGM.

Recipients will be recorded in the National President's Report tabled at the Annual General Meeting.
