How do you shape a collection, so it tells a multifaceted story of a state’s history? In this webinar, join the PMI Victorian History Library’s Collections Librarian and Volunteer Coordinator Ellen Coates as she explores the evolution of the PMI Library’s collection. The PMI Library is the second oldest public library in Victoria, founded in 1854. In the 1980s the Committee made the decision to specialise in Victorian history. This webinar will begin with that foundation, building on this to discuss shaping the collection into the 21^st century. This webinar will discuss:

·         Writing a thematic collection policy.

·         The importance of collecting different formats (including videos and ephemera).

·         How to work actively to collect minority voices.

·         Adaptive classification systems (including a modified version of Dewey).

·         Acquisitions and sourcing material for the collection.
