Petal Kinder International Travel Scholarship
The ALLA Petal Kinder International Travel Fellowship Program provides ALLA members with an opportunity to attend an international law library conference of their choice.

The program was introduced in 2011 and is now named in honour of Ms. Petal Kinder.
Petal Kinder’s contribution to law librarianship cannot be overstated. With a foundational knowledge of legal information, savvy business skills, and a drive to share ideas with colleagues, Petal was an inspiration.

This award is named in Petal’s honour because of her leadership in law librarianship throughout the world. Amongst many distinguished career highlights, Petal was Board Member of the International Association of Law Librarians from 2004-2019, including as President from 2010-2013.

Petal was also great fun to hang out with and remains in the thoughts and hearts of those who had the privilege of working with her.
ALLA awards one Fellowship per year that provides financial assistance of up to $4000 to help pay for airfares, accommodation and registration.
This year, there will be two fellowships awarded, with the second award being sponsored by BarNet OpenLaw. Petal Kinder worked with BarNet OpenLaw after finishing up at the High Court. The team at BarNet wanted to provide an ALLA member with an opportunity, of which Petal would have fiercely advocated for.
Candidates apply for the Fellowship in a competitive process, and an ALLA selection panel makes the decisions on who receives the scholarship.
